Conor Kenny
The Torchbearer – Bearer of the Next Flame
For Conor Kenny, Irish traditional music isn’t a genre—it’s a way of life.
Born and raised in the vibrant town of Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Conor grew up in a home where music was as much a part of daily life as conversation. Surrounded by the sounds of Irish folk and traditional music from his earliest days, he developed a deep connection to the songs and tunes that have shaped Ireland’s cultural identity for generations.
Family and friends still recall a young Conor dancing around the kitchen to the music of Ireland’s great folk artists before he was old enough to understand the stories behind the songs. By the age of three, he had already picked up the tin whistle and begun what would become a lifelong musical journey. Possessing a natural curiosity and remarkable musical instinct, he quickly expanded his repertoire, mastering the banjo, bouzouki, guitar and mandolin while developing a reputation as one of the most exciting young musicians to emerge from Ireland’s thriving traditional music scene.
Despite his youth, Conor has already shared stages with some of the most respected names in Irish music, including Dónal Lunny, George Murphy, The Druids and Méadhbh Walsh. His musicianship, versatility and infectious enthusiasm have earned admiration from audiences and fellow performers alike.
As a member of Seven Drunken Nights, Conor represents a new generation of Irish musicians who are both deeply respectful of tradition and passionate about keeping it relevant for modern audiences. His performances capture the energy, excitement and authenticity that first drew him to the music as a child.
Alongside the accomplished Aidan Burke, Conor forms part of a remarkable musical partnership within the cast. Together they showcase the living tradition of Irish music—one representing decades of mastery and experience, the other embodying its bright and exciting future. Their shared passion and musicianship help bridge generations, ensuring that these songs and tunes continue to inspire audiences for years to come.
Whether leading a spirited reel, accompanying a beloved ballad or introducing younger audiences to the richness of Irish traditional music, Conor approaches every performance with the same joy and wonder that first inspired him as a three-year-old with a whistle in his hand.
